Every day I wake up in my palatial bed with a renewed sense of regret, wishing that there had been any other way to save Alderaan other than agreeing to marry Isolder, my now husband, the Prince of Hapan. There’s nothing wrong with him, exactly, he’s polite and proper and beautiful, of course, with his long blonde hair and blue-gray eyes. He’s kind, and patient with me and never fails to forgive my temper, but somehow that oboe makes it worse, makes me feel like an unruly child instead of his wife, his equal.

He tells me that he’s selected a new pilot for my flagship, that this stranger will be my bodyguard as well due to the ongoing threats in my life and I do my best not to sulk, knowing I’m capable of taking care of myself, but instead nodding and accepting his unassuming kiss on my cheek.

I can’t bear to see her so upset, and I shake my head furiously at myself for letting it happen. “I’ll stop. I’ll just – I’ll stop.”

“It doesn’t matter,” I say immediately, dropping my bag and rushing to hug him tightly. “I love you more than anything. It doesn’t matter.”

"Of course it matters," I say, rubbing her back in circles. "I'll do anything for you."

“I’m so sorry,” I say, over and over, hugging him as hard as I can. “I love you so much.”

"Please, Leia, it's not you who needs to be sorry," I say, squeezing her tight. "I love you..."

“I love you too,” I sniffle, my face buried in his chest. “I’m not afraid of you.”

"Sometimes I'm afraid of me," I admit.

“You shouldn’t be,” I say softly. “You’re the best man I’ve ever known.”

“Really?” I ask, genuinely surprised, not looking for compliments - for once - but wondering how I can possibly rank among those she’s encountered.

“I mean, my father is pretty wonderful, but,” I say, softly teasing. “I’ve never met anyone as genuinely caring and kind as you.”

“Oh, Leia,” I say, embarrassed by the lump that forms in my throat. “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” I say, burying my face in his neck. “No more fighting.”

"Not even play fighting?" I ask, stroking the back of her neck.

“Just shut up and kiss me, nerfherder,” I laugh, stretching up on my toes and kissing him anyway, not waiting for him to make the move.

I start to say that I'm no nerfherder, but then her lips are on mine and everything is okay again.

I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him for a long time, all but refusing to come up for air, only wanting him.

I’m the one that breaks the kiss, but only so I can press my forehead against hers, looking down at her.

“What?” I ask, a little nervous and a lot out of breath.

“Just… wanted to look at you a little longer,” I say.

I blush softly, looking up at him through my eyelashes as I bite my lip.

“You are so beautiful, it’s insanity,” I tell her, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

“You’re ridiculous,” I laugh softly, though my blush only intensifies.

“Ridiculously in love?” I offer, raising my brow.

“Oh my god,” I groan, rolling my eyes but wrapping my arms around his waist tightly. “You’ve already got me, you know.”

“I sure do. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna treat you like trash;” I say.
